[tot] [team lucky] chp. 3 intro / arrival

"Ugh." Persefon sat in a recess in the canyon wall, shaking his paws free from the sweat that had accumulated beneath his fur. "Heat."

"It sure is something," Marie agreed sheepishly from beside her. The sunlight showed no remorse as it pulsed down relentlessly onto their fur. The alcove offered precious little relief, especially during this time of the day when the sun shone down at a hellish 180 degree angle. The audino loosened the tie of her cape, pulling it off her neck. "Goodness, ... I'm just about cooked."

Persefon sniffed slowly, miserable. "I should have cut my fur before coming here."

Marie tilted her head to glance at her companion's plushy, luxurious fur. "Oh, I'm glad you didn't. It would have taken ages to grow out again."

"I cut it once when I was younger. Never again." 

"Did it look bad? Or?" 

"It was so itchy while it grew back in. I cut it too short in places, so it was patchy, and where it was patchy it was like an itch I could never scratch. And yes, it looked bad. I cut it myself, you see."

Marie laughed. "I can imagine."

The eevee sighed. "But maybe it would have been worth it for this."

The call of duty had come from Tabira for an expedition to Ywaru Canyon, where the most prominent source of water was being contaminated from somewhere up north. It was a mission of urgency, to say the least. Although neither of them had been to Ywaru before, shortage of water seemed such a serious issue that they had both agreed to help with the disaster relief immediately.

They weren't near the settlement yet. The pair were trailing slowly behind the main party of Tabirans, walking (or resting, rather) at their own pace while keeping an eye on the path.

"Once the time passes a little, we'll be in shade as we walk. We'll wait until then." Marie lifted a bit of her partner's neck fluff and fanned him underneath. "And drink some water." 

"Thanks, Marie." Persefon bent down and lapped at the waterskin that hung around his neck. "Gosh, I really wasn't made for this type of heat."

"Mm." The audino continued fanning the eevee, satisfied by his look of relief that resulted from it. "Didn't you used to live somewhere cold?"

"I wouldn't call it cold, but it was definitely cooler than this. And Tabira, as well." Persefon flicked back his ears as he answered. "Lots of wind. I was born there, but I didn't really stay long."

"Where was it, again?"

"A small settlement up north called Saffron Village. It wasn't far from a lake, so the temperature was cool. Anyway, I'm glad I left."

"Hmm." Marie hummed in agreement as she took a sip from her own waterskin. "I've always just lived in Rivercross. And then, Tabira."

"Oh, that's cool. We met in Rivercross, so I did think that was the case."

"My parents live in Rivercross, too. So I don't really know much about ... everywhere else. I'm excited to be here in Ywaru. Even if it is super hot."

"I'm excited too! I'm also just... melting."

"You're too fluffy, Percy."

"It's a blessing,... and a curse..."

When their shadows had lengthened a bit, Persefon stood up, shaking their fur slightly. "Alright, we should catch up to the rest of them. Good thing we told Vander that we'd be moving a bit slowly."

Marie stood as well, folding her green cape into a neat square that she tucked into her pack. "Yeah. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they've stopped to rest up ahead in an alcove, as well."

"Imagine how tough it is for the Ywarans right now... We should hurry."

"Gotcha."
